Environment and Climate Change

The community we serve, Mathare, is home to over 500,000 residents, largely characterized by families averaging five members living in densely packed, tiny shanties. These homes desperately lack proper sanitation, ventilation, plumbing, and safe waste disposal, making them highly susceptible to disease and fire hazards.

We see this challenge as a critical opportunity for transformation:

  • Youth-Led Action: Our youth teams don’t just play; they take ownership of their environment. Every weekend, they lead community efforts in garbage collection, tree planting, and clearing blocked sewage lines.
  • Health and Safety: This direct action significantly reduces the spread of preventable diseases such as malaria, cholera, and dysentery, lowering child mortality rates and improving public health.
  • Awareness & Resilience: We empower our youth to become environmental advocates, creating awareness on environmental conservation and climate change to secure a cleaner, safer, and more resilient future for all residents.
