In 2024, the CSG computer lab was established as a new initiative aimed at equipping young people from the Mathare slums with digital skills. Mathare is home to over 70,000 school-going children, yet it has only two public schools. As a result, a large number of children attend informal community schools, which are set up and managed by individuals seeking to bridge the gap left by the inadequate public education system.
Due to government neglect, Mathare lacks essential infrastructure, including electricity, a proper sewer system, and garbage collection services. In response to these challenges, we established the computer lab to provide children from various community schools with access to basic digital skills, enabling them to compete with their peers from middle-class schools. Additionally, our goal is to use these computers to equip youth from the slums with employability skills, helping them build better futures.
