Activities and Outputs for CSG

Center for Sports Annual League and Clean Ups

  1. 62 teams registered with 28 being for girls 34 being for boys in Mathare.
  2. A total of 940 matches were played with 376 being for girls and 564 being for boys.
  3. 992 players and youth coaches and peer educated were involved during the running of the league.
  4. Organised capacity building trainings for coaching, refereeing, first aid, and basic sports administration, and cumulatively trained 80 volunteers with 20 participants in each session. A total of 34 participants were female, while 46 of them were male.
  5. Took a select team of 17 role model players, coaches and leaders from our community league to the East Africa Cup for a youth exchange and experience sharing event in Tanzania. Our team finished as first runners up in the under 16 female age categories.
  6. Organised a joint sports event that involved over 50 disabled kids in our community. This was achieved through joint initiatives with a local partner through a network of 5 community-based organisations in Mathare.
  7. A total of 18 community clean-ups were organised involving over 992 youth, coaches, peer leaders, and community members and collected an estimated of over 18 tons of garbage, collected and transferred to the Municipal dumping site.

Health Activities and Training.

  1. Organized talks during our league matches for drugs and substance abuse, and crime prevention for 18 boys’ teams and 11 girls team reaching 270 boys and 165 girls.
  2. Organized Talks during our league matches on sexual and reproductive health rights, HIV/AIDS and Gender Based Violence for 20 boys’ teams and 11 girls’ teams reaching 300 boys and 165 girls.
  3. Organized talks during our league matches on children rights for 20 boys’ teams and 13 girls’ teams reaching 300 boys and 195 girls
  4. Organized a training on Menstrual hygiene and distributed dignity kits to over 50 school going girls.

Environment and Climate Change Awareness Activities.

  1. We prepared 1000 tree seedlings that to be planted in 2023 with an aim to increase the trees cover as an effort to combat climate change. We planted 250 trees in year 2023 and created awareness to the wider community of Mathare on environmental conservation and climate change issues and its effects on our planet and our day-to-day life.
  2. A total of 18 community clean ups were organized involving over 1000 youth, coaches, peer leaders, and community members and collected an estimate of over 18 tons of garbage collected and transferred to Municipal dumping site.

Education Activities.

  1. Referred a total of 4 females & 2 male to Technical and Vocational Training Centers where they were awarded scholarships. Managed to get a full scholarship for high school for one of our very talented female player Magdaline Ndanu who was also selected as the best player during the East Africa Cup competition in Tanzania
  2. Organized entrepreneurship and employability trainings for 30 youths (15 males and 15 females) and referred them to National Government Affirmative Action Fund i.e., Constituency Uwezo Fund where they got support for small scale business startups.
  3. Organized motivational and mentorship talks for 50 youths (Girls 30 & Boys 20)
  4. Our computer lab was able to reach over 200 children with basic digital skills such as on coding, design and basic computer packages that supports the students with writing and presentation skills among youth aged between 18-25 years.
  5. Organized crime prevention talks for 50 boys.

Human Rights and Advocacy.

  1. Public participation in the Mathare Sub-County hospital ward, where we were able to advocate for allocation of resources towards the establishment of youth-friendly services, school feeding programs, rehabilitation and upgrading of public recreational spaces.
  2. Organised a session in partnership with an organisation known as Intersex Kenya Education and advocacy to create awareness on the rights of intersex children and how best children born intersex can be supported. This awareness session managed to reach 50 youth from the various teams registered with CSG.
